Popy-Loly de Monteysson

After studying at Penninghen’s School of Art Direction (ESAG-Met) and National School of Decorative Arts (ENSAD) in Paris, Popy-Loly de Monteysson completed her studies with a Philosophy program, at the Catholic University of Paris. She then explored the world of dramaturgy with Eugenio Barba, researcher at the Odin Teatret International School of Anthropology in Denmark, and completed her research on body displacement and scenographic installation with professors from GITIS Moscow. Her artistic experience ranges from theatrical decoration, to theater costumes, illustrations, and artistic direction.

This artwork was born from the search for materials reminiscent of childhood and the relation to injunctions that one meets at this period, especially little girls. The artist brings back, through a superposition of images, all her childhood memories. The princess dress and the dreamlike image of its flight into the sky give birth (or re-birth) to an ultimate need for freedom, fugue, and escape that represented the dream at that time.
